Taylor Swift and Rihanna: Take A Bow

Rihanna moved to the United States at the age of 16 to pursue a recording career. In 2005, Rihanna released her first album, Music Of The Sun, which ranked in the top ten of the Billboard 200 chart. A year later, she released her second album, A Girl Like Me, which ranked within the top five of the Billboard chart and produced her first US number one hit single, "SOS." Rihanna's third studio album, Good Girl Gone Bad, ranked at number two on the Billboard 200, and it featured the US number one hit single, "Take A Bow." The album was nominated for nine Grammy Awards. Rihanna has won three Grammys so far in her career and is considered to be one of the best female artists in R&B music.

Taylor Swift is an extremely popular country singer. In 2006, she released her debut single "Tim McGraw." In November 2008, Taylor released her second album, Fearless. Fearless has topped the Billboard 200 in 11 non-consecutive weeks, no album has spent more time at No. 1 since 2000. Taylor Swift was named Artist of the Year by Billboard Magazine in 2009 and Fearless won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2010.

Both Rihanna and Taylor Swift recorded the song "Take A Bow." The song was originally written by Ne-yo and given to Rihanna to record. The song eventually became a number one hit for Rihanna. Taylor Swfit is a fan of Rihanna and when they met, Taylor thought she was a great person and wanted to cover one of her songs. Because "Take A Bow" was so popular at the time, Taylor covered it at a few of her concerts. Both artists have the same lyrics to the song and it contains a few poetic devices. Alliteration is used, "Grab your clothes and get gone" with repitition of the g. Also, the song is written in the second person because she is talking to someone. Also, it is narrative because it is telling a story with events. The song also has a lot of imagery in it, usch as "You look so dumb right now/Standin' outside my house/Tryin' to apologize/You're so ugly when you cry/Please, just cut it out." Through out the song there is mood, it kind of keeps the depressing mood throughout it.

Rihanna performs this song in R&B, while Taylor Swift performed it in country. Both songs are sung with the same lyrics and have the same poetic devices. The only difference is that one version is sung by a R&B singer and the other version is sung by a country singer.
