Best Days Of Your Life: Kellie Pickler

Kellie Pickler is a young, country music artist. She gained her fame as a contestant on American Idol, where she finished in sixth place. In 2006, she released her debut album, Small Town Girl. The album produced three singles that made it on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. In 2008, She released her second album that includes the single"Best Days of Your Life.” Kellie co-wrote this song with Taylor Swift and it became her first Top 10 hit. On October 26,2009, Kellie Pickler won the title of Country Weekly's poll most beautiful woman in country music for the second year in a row and was nominated for New Artist of The Year at the CMA awards, where she performed her song “Best Days of Your Life.” This song uses many great poetic devices throughout the whole song.

One poetic device used in the song “Best Days of Your Life” is alliteration.. An example of this is “You can’t forget about what we had,” with the repetition of the “W.” Another poetic device is allusion. The listener can hear this in “Take a look at her and do you like what you see? Or do you wish it was me?” It references something beyond just the lyrics. The chorus of the song “Best Days of Your Life” is a motif. When Kellie sings, “you've already had the best days/The best days of your life,” she is using a motif because it is repeated through out the song to keep the theme. A cliché is an overused expression. Kellie Pickler uses a cliché in her song in the phrase “But, I've been told that a cheater/Is always a cheater.” Another device used is narrative. Part of her song tells the story of something that happened, “Yeah, someone told me once, when you were out/She went a little crazy ran her mouth about me/Ain't jealousy funny?” Satire is also a poetic device used through out the song. When the line “I've got my pride, and she's got you...” is sung, it is meant as a satire because it is sarcastic. The sarcasm of this is that the singer is saying, well I have my pride, but the only thing she has is you, which is not a good thing. Lastly, an example of a metaphor is used, “I was head-over-heals.”

The song “Best Days of Your Life” was one of Kellie Pickler’s top hits. The song is about break up and heart break and how the guy in the relationship already had the “Best Days of [his] Life,” and will never stop thinking of his ex. Kellie Pickler became so popular in country music from the show American Idol. She will continue to rise in fame because she knows what people can relate to, and sings songs about it.

Billboard 100

#3 Need You Know: Lady Antebellum
The song Need You Know by Lady Antebellum is sung in first person. The song is mainly about a girl wanting her boyfriend back. She’s drunk and needs him and realizes she wants to be back with him. The song is mainly straight forward about what its about, for example in the line “I said I wouldn't call but I'm a little drunk and I need you now”. This song is easy for people to relate to because it is about someone wanting there ex back and needing them. I think this song is on the top Billboard because a lot of people like the beat of the song and it is popular. The song is country, but is still played on all of the other popular radio stations, which makes it even more popular.
#4 TiK ToK: Ke$ha
The song TiK ToK is basically all about having fun. It’s about going out with your friends and having a good time and not caring about anything else. It is sung in first person. Throughout the song, Ke$ha describes her day and how she’s going to a party and going to do what ever she wants and have fun. In the line “Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy”, she is comparing waking up to P Diddy by using a simile. She uses P Diddy as a way to say she feels like a star in the morning. There are many poetic devices I this song, such as alliteration in the title, Tik Tok. I think this is #4 on the Billboard because the song has an upbeat tone that is catchy and most people enjoy. The song is fun and makes you want to dance, so people download it to listen to and it is played on the radio frequently, so it is popular.
#10 In my Head: Jason Derulo
In my head, is from the first person perspective. It’s about a girl in a club and how everyone is looking for love and that’s why they go to clubs. To the singer, in his head, he can see the girl with him. He thinks he is better than the other guys, because he knows what the girl wants. The song is also about the singer showing the girl a different kind of love, which he states in the lyrics: “You'll see a side of love you’ve never known.” The song does not really have much poetic devices in it, showing that music today is more about just writing about anything and singing it, rather than putting thought and a story behind the lyrics. I think this song made the Billboard top 100 because people are attracted more to the beat of the song rather than the actual meaning of it.

"white liar" by Miranda Lambert Analysis

Miranda Lambert is a country music artist who gained her fame as a finalist on the show Nashville Star, in 2003. She finished in third place and signed with Epic Records. Miranda made her debut with her first album Kerosene in 2005. Her first single was "Me and Charlie Talking." This album also produced the singles "Bring Me Down", "Kerosene”, and "New Strings." All four songs made the top 40 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. After her first album, Miranda Lambert switched to Columbia records to make her second album, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, released in 2007. Her third album was called Revolution, and was realesed in September 2009. The album's single, "White Liar”, debuted at #50 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in Agust 2009 and by February 2010, "White Liar" became Lambert's highest-charting single reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Miranda Lambert is the third female country singer to have three records debut at #1 on Billboard Country Albums. “White liar” shows great uses of peoetic devices throughout the song.

The song “white liar” is about love and cheating in a small town. One poetic device that is used frequently is alliteration. Examples of these are “tongue like turpentine”, “you better be careful what you do”, I wouldn’t wanna be in your shoes”, and “cause my cousin”. All of these show alliteration because they are repetition of the same sound at the beinging of the words. Also, Miranda Lambert uses a lot of similes in her song, “the truth comes out a little at a time and it spreads just like a fire” , is a similes because it uses the word “like” to compare the truth and fire to each other. “Slips off your tongue like turpentine” is also a simlie. “Hey white liar” is a motif and is repeated frequently throughout the song to keep the theme. Imagery is also a popular poetic device used frequently throughtout the song. “And walked some lady to her car” is an example of imagery, “with a red head named Bernice” is too, and “spreads just like a fire” is also imagery. Lastly, an allusion is used in the song “white liar” in the line “spreads just like a fire.”

“White liar” was wirtten in both first and second person. The song was a success for Miranda Lambert and became popular right away. Miranda’s songs are about all diffferent things, making it easy for people to relate to her music. Miranda Lambert is a great country singer and I think through this song, people can realize how cheating can mess up a realtionship and how easy it is for the other person to find out, when you live in a small town.
